12,2007 if you have recently turned over a magazine or turned on a TV or radio, you may come across ads for mattress promotion technology developed by NASA.
Most people don\'t associate a spaceship with a good night\'s sleep.
After all, who can know that there is nothing but a thin layer of metal between them and oblivion?
But that\'s exactly what the companies that create these spaces are driving --
Age mattress has become a popular seller.
In the 1970s s, NASA tried to get from the huge G-
Take force-Land and land.
Institutional scientists have come up with what they call sticky
Elastic Memory Foam-a dense, heat-and pressure-
Sensitive foam that fits the shape of the body, and when the pressure is removed, it reverts to the original shape.
After several trips, NASA decided that the material was not durable enough to meet the needs of space flight.
But Swedish scientists have realized that the bubble could be useful for more earth activities such as sleep, and it took ten years to transform it.
The first memory foam mattress came to the United States in 1994.
Analysts say more than 80% of the mattresses sold nationwide are still traditional mattresses.
This memory bubble represents only a fraction of the rest, less than 3%.
But mattresses are becoming more attractive to the high-weight baby boomers.
Have a good sleep.
Manufacturers of these mattresses like to point out that the basic mattress design has not changed in nearly a century since the metal inner spring began to replace Ma Mao.
\"We tried to come over and say there was a better way to sleep,\" H said . \"
Thomas Bryant, president, North American operations, Temple
A manufacturer in Lexington, Kentucky.
Like other manufacturers, Tempur-
The foam, Pedic says, provides an incomparable support for traditional mattresses.
The memory foam is not pushed back like the inner spring, but conforms to the outline of your body, giving the position to heavy objects such as hips and shoulders. The two companies said that while supporting the lighter areas such as the spine.
They added that because the weight is evenly distributed, you almost have the feeling of floating in space, and the foam helps cushion the movement of the restless sleeping partner.
Mattresses are widely used in hospitals and the elderly
Because they can relieve pressure and reduce pressure sore.
The memory foam mattress does not have to be replaced regularly and there will be no dust.
There are shortcomings.
Foam mattresses made of polyurethane will give off a strong smell in the first few days.
Katie Tabeling, Tempur\'s spokeswoman
The Pedic said the smell was released from the foam after the package was removed and was not harmful. Dr. Jerome F.
McAndrews, a spokesman for the American Chiropractic Association, said he was skeptical about some of the marketing claims of the new mattress, such as the idea that the foam had \"memories.
\"The association recommends a mattress that selectively supports the body, so that, for example, your spine is straight if you lie by your side.
It supports a high
End mattress with spring wall with hundreds of inner springs
McAndrews, who has never tried the memory foam mattress, admits that this suggestion can also describe the memory foam mattress. Dr.
Jodi Fidler, a masseur at St.
Louis Park in Minnesota
Sleep on Tempur all the time-
Mattress for seven years and recommend mattress to her client.
Susan Ebaugh, Serta\'s chief brand officer, said of the memory bubble: \"It\'s a different feeling;
Not necessarily good or bad.
\"In our experience,\" she added, \"most people still prefer the inner spring.
However, Serta and other big interiors
Spring manufacturers are adding foam to their production line. A queen-
Size memory foam mattress for $1,000 to $3,000--
Much higher than many standard internal prices
But still lower than some of the professional luxury mattresses with springs.
For example, you might buy a Dux bed from Sweden for $4,000 to $7,000, or another Swedish company, Hastens, for $20,000.
New York lawyer Carole Chervin is a convert. Ms.
Chervin was troubled by hip pain while sleeping sideways and found her turning over and over.
She retired when she was 15. year-old inner-
Spring mattress, eventually at Tempur-
After trying out one at the Brookstone store, pedik.
\"The bed is really sold . \"Chervin, 39.

She said she slept more comfortably and healthily a few weeks later.
\"I definitely woke up less,\" she said . \".
Of course, it is important to go around.
All the memory bubbles are different and the marketing hype is hard to solve. Tempur-
Pedic Launches Tempur materials, while Dormia, a subsidiary of senior comfort, offers poses-Temp. Supple-
The Pedic of Strobel Technologies owns Polyfilax. It\'s all visco-
Elastic foam, more or less based on NASA\'s design. But Tempur-
Pedic is one of the few companies with their own foam formula.
Most companies get bubbles from big suppliers like carpenters or Foamex International.
Good memory foam uses the design of an \"open battery\" that allows air to cycle and disperse heat, and is dense enough to provide good support, experts say.
Knock carefully-offs, they say.
\"The bedding industry has a lot of smoke and mirrors,\" says Steve Amis, national sales director at Springwall, which sells Belgian memory foam mattresses under the European trex brand.
As we all know, some retailers pretend to be brands of inferior mattresses
Naming models, or promoting them in similar cases
They are usually sold for a few hundred dollars less.
If you are not sure, please consult the manufacturer to confirm that a certain store has its products. Ms.
There was a shop that offered her to sell a Tempur-
After careful inquiry, the Pedic became a different brand for $500.
The ad, of course, the only way to tell you if the mattress is right for you is to try it out.
You may immediately notice the difference between the memory foam and the inner spring, but the difference between the brands may not be obvious.
Experts recommend lying on every mattress in the store for 10 to 15 minutes.
\"We sometimes have to beg people to put on mattresses and stay on them for a while,\" said Brian M . \"
Benko, vice president Dormia.
Of course, mattress preferences are a very personal issue and memory foam may not be something everyone likes.
Debra Bergman, an independent television producer in Manhattan, found that some memory foam mattresses were almost too loose.
\"You just sink, sink and sink,\" she said . \".
In the end, she chose a queen for $1,200 --
Size Sonno mattress, designed to combine 2 inch memory foam with 6 inch standard polyurethane foam for a firmer feel.
Most manufacturers offer a probationary period and most companies offer a warranty period. Tempur-
For example, the insurance period for the Pedic is 20 years, and the insurance period for Dormia is 25 years.
If you\'re still on your guard, you can start with a memory foam pillow that costs around $80 to see if it will prompt any flight --through-space dreams.
Quick preparation if you want to buy a memory foam mattress based on a technology developed by NASA, here are the factors to remember: pros foam fits your body and can be fully supported.
