Traditional Spring Mattresses vs. Premium Memory Foam Mattresses

Traditional box spring mattresses are constructed from a series of connected springs with edged wire rods for extra support. Because the springs are attached, the system provides excellent support throughout the sleeping area. They offer great value for money and offer a range of comfort levels from orthopedic to softer grades.

Most of the support comes from metal coils that run across the width of the mattress. A premium memory foam mattress distributes your weight evenly, like having billions of little springs supporting you. Pressure points are significantly reduced, up to 80%, that only memory foam can deliver.

Tossing and turning is a major cause of poor sleep, and using a memory foam mattress can greatly reduce it. Pressure is measured in mmHg, and in the healthcare industry, 32mmHg or less is considered a pressure relief surface, and a memory foam mattress has a speed of about 15mmHg. Spring mattress speeds can exceed 32mmHg, which is the maximum limit for what is considered a decompression surface.

On a spring mattress that means you don't have pressure relief because the spring pushes back on your body greatly causing numbness.
