Sheet, Mattress Are Strange Bedfellows

2020/06/06
Problem: I met something that I thought someone who bought a new mattress should know.
I bought a new king recently.
Size mattress as a replacement for foam rubber mattress that I have been eating for about 20 years and this mattress is crumbling.
Now that I have gone so far, I have also bought several sets of fitted sheets at the same time.
I almost broke a wrist and tried to make it fit too
Small sheets on the new mattress, although they were clearly labeled \"King.
My first reaction was that I ended up getting some kind of maverick mattress because there was no way in the world to fit the sheets.
When I complained to the shop where I bought the mattress, I was sure it wasn\'t and the mattress was OK.
This is only because today\'s mattress manufacturers are a lot thicker than before, and the sheets manufacturers have not received the information yet.
I think it\'s weird. -
So I tend to doubt it.
The one in the store where I bought the mattress also said that this is a good reason to be very careful when buying sheets for sale as the store is trying to unload old, smaller sheets.
Is this true or is the whole thing a product of someone\'s imagination? --J. C.
Answer: interesting things happened in the world of household goods, although it seems strange to you and me that there may be little or no communication between the two home goods manufacturers, but this is basically the case.
Spokesmen for both industries acknowledge that mattress manufacturers and paper makers tend to develop without worry ---tra-la-la-la-la--go their way.
\"I feel this way sometimes,\" New York --based Donald H.
Roberts, executive director, National Association for bathroom, bedding and linen.
Complaining, \"We were the last to know when the mattress manufacturer changed the size.
Here are all these factories that grind out thousands of sheets of paper. -Proof of fact--
The new mattress is impossible.
They are not thick enough.
Poor consumers were injured.
And Nancy Butler, vice president of communications at the National Security Agency.
Bedding manufacturers in Arlington, Va.
She admitted that in fact, her staff had been slowly increasing the thickness of the mattress \"for about two or three years\" without apparently letting the sheet maker know what was going on.
\"But,\" she added on the defensive end, \"the paper maker has never had any criteria in any case: you can buy the so-called same paper for the same paper --
There are three or four size beds of different manufacturers and none of them are the same thickness.
\"Only limited to thickness, confusion is completely limited to mattress thickness ---
According to Linda Piper, an assistant buyer at the Broadway paper department, width and length have long been standardized. With (
Don\'t you know? )
One exception: \"We sometimes let people move here with Kings from the East or the Midwest --
They bought it a sheet that didn\'t fit at all.
\"That\'s because the East King is 78 inch wide, 80 inch long, 72 inch wide in California and 84 inch long. (
Are California\'s hips thinner and taller? )
Fortunately, the others, regardless of the point of purchase, are the same size: Queen (60 by 80 inch, the Double (54 by 75 inch, the Twin (75 inch by 39)
Super-long twins with just-right teenagersagers (80 inch by 39).
According to Gary Heyman, vice president of department for home decoration at Broadway, the thickness problem you experience has been frustrating retailers for some time.
Mattress manufacturers have been steadily making mattresses thicker. -
Make them more plush, quilting them and adding things like \"Top of pillow\"-
\"Obviously there is no telling the paper manufacturer about it,\" he added . \".
\"Paper manufacturers have put it down to a science ---
Know exactly, to square inches. -
What is needed for this size mattress and that size mattress.
The housekeeper of the mattress maker said: \"The problem is with your better sheets and mattresses.
Most of your promotions, sales models are maintained at 7-inch-thick level.
But the thickness of your better mattress has reached 8, 9 or even 10 inch, this \"pillow top\" model requires 12-
Inch installation table.
\"The fact that mattress and bed sheet manufacturers are finally starting to talk to each other can be attributed to NBC --
On last August, Betty Furness, a TV consumer reporter, reported the problem in her program.
\"There was a big reaction to that, and frankly, we didn\'t realize it until then,\" Butler said.
\"Now, the paper manufacturer ---
At least major, like J. P.
Stevens, field crest, West Point pepper and cannon-
Nevertheless, Butler added, \"with the introduction of the new sheets, there is an inventory issue in the store.
\"So how can unlucky consumers protect themselves from buying --
Tight sheets for King
The size of the mattress, and the validity of the warning you received regarding the purchase of special price sheets (
Because the store is trying to get rid of the old one)?
Look who you asked.

Roberts was wary. of-special-
Sales warnings are a bit exaggerated.
Roberts said: \"The sheets are on sale most of the time anyway, so I don\'t think you\'ll find many stores using it specifically for this purpose, as the old mattresses outside are much more and thinner than the new ones.
When Heyman responded to the mood-
Especially it is suitable for high quality paper-
He also admitted that it would certainly be easy to slip to the modern King to buy the right sheets --
The size of the mattress is really hard.
You must know exactly the size of your own mattress.
Fortunately, all the paper packs are clearly marked with their dimensions, so if you have questions, just choose the thickest sheet.
\"However, it is the National Assn that represents the manufacturer of the mattress.
Housekeepers of bedding manufacturers feel carefulof-special-
Sales warning \"there may be some validity for it at least for a period of time, although it may not apply to better-quality sheets.
\"One can think that if three years ago a separate mattress maker picked up the phone and called his sheets, all of this might not happen --

\"Q: It seems to me that Los Angeles County should be united.
When I suddenly realized that we had never received a property tax bill, we had bought it in our new house for almost a year and a half.
I called the county finance minister\'s office and they sent me a \"alternative secured property tax bill\" but they also offered me arrears for the first and second periods, the total amount was $310 and the cost was $10.
I know I\'m responsible for my taxes and willing to pay them, but I hate being penalized for late fees on bills I \'ve never received.
If no one tells me, how do I know when to pay the money? --M. PA: Richard B.

\"Unfortunately, under California law, there is very little basis for exemption from punishment, it sounds unfair, and not receiving a tax bill is not one of them.

\"Of course, this is the curse of spam, and this is what many people mistake the tax bill ---
We all ignore it or throw it away without reading.
